Do it for us Julia Fox
While I do think Ms. Julia Fox is doing entirely too much talking about her two dates with Kanye, I can't help but give into the clickbait regurgitating the same three pictures from their night out. A quick search pulls up several interviews she’s already given and countless headlines about Kanye’s “new girl”. Our collective obsession with this fling (publicity stunt) ultimately comes back to our collective boredom, winter colds and the remnants of lockdown.
If you don't know who I'm talking about --- Julia Fox is an up and coming actress, NYC wild child and former dominatrix who met Kanye in Miami on New Year's Eve. They danced in the moonlight and decided to keep the vibes going. Flew to NY, watched a Broadway play and then had dinner at Carbone where Fox wore the now infamous exposed thong look that carried us through the week. This dream night ends with Kanye surprising his new muse with a hotel suite full of clothing (!!)
If that does nothing for you, you should stop reading because the rest of this will not matter and your life is far more exciting than mine.
Some of us are closely following (obsessed with) this pop culture whirlwind because it’s negative degrees out, everyone’s sick and we already watched everything on Netflix. And so…along come these two. Attractive, full of life and pasta and energy, gallivanting around Miami and NY to remind us of the spontaneity, adventures and the breath of life we're all craving.
I want nothing more than to party in Miami and jet off to dinner with my thong out. It's actually the only dream I have right now. An escape from these grey skies, my winter blues and the never ending uncertainty we're all enduring.
This (stunt) well documented connection is a visual reminder of the rapture and all-consuming high a new fling brings. The exhilarating exhaustion of weekends packed with partying, morning sex and another night out. The excitement of telling your friends (or in Julia's case - every news outlet) how unexpectedly hilarious and intoxicating he is. You’re alive, horny, full of enthusiasm and passion.
But no. Not I, Julia. That is not my life.
Lately, between laying on the couch and walking to the grocery store I've been getting momentary pangs that the best years of my perky tits are slowly drooping away from me. My wrinkle-free smile is decaying behind this face mask. I'm obviously growing a hunchback and I will never feel the sun on my face again. That's where I'm at.
So you know what? Do your thing Julia. Ride this high. Go to Carbone as many times as you want. Eat more pasta. Repost all the paparazzi pictures. Give us more thongs and more leather. Take every interview that calls. Tell us everything, please. Do it for those of us in this never ending cycle of pajamas and Netflix. We need you.
Today, I am living through Julia Fox (and her PR team) but at the height of lockdown when I was drowning in monotony, I wrote the below piece to help me release. Somehow I'm still here…drowning in monotony so it felt right to share this with you in case you are too.
Life now
is not stumbling home after a night out bent over from laughter
It’s not waking up reminiscing with that smile on your face
It's not walking into a room with a killer outfit watching people stare
It’s not a gala with your friends
It’s not the first sip at the airport to kick off the vacation
Or the dress on top of your sunburn before dinner
It's not champagne intoxication in the middle of the day
When you glance over and see her dancing like no one is watching
She stumbles and we all laugh and you know she should go home
She knows it too
But it's Sunday and this is fun
It’s not celebrating with a friend and ordering a third round of The Same
and a second order of One For The Table
It’s not the feeling of your heart dropping and losing service 10,000 feet in the air
It’s not packing for a trip with the guy whose been making you laugh for months
It's not rummaging around your bag for your passport outside a Parisian bar in a dark alley waiting to see if the guy you met at the café will show up
It's not the chill of the breeze on your bare legs in that skirt you love
It's not the drunk stranger in the bathroom of a dive bar telling you she loves that lip on you
It's not the Summer rain after being in the park all day and your feet start to slip in your flip flops
your wet and gasping but your happy
And now your going home
to eat pasta
And you can't wait to be home because you love pasta
It’s not coming home after a long day of work and taking off your bra
sitting on the couch with your legs spread feeling so grateful that the work day is over so you can watch your new show
Because Life Now
You're always home
And you're working at home
And you're making pasta again at home
And you forgot to go buy wine
And you can't run on the treadmill because the gym is closed
And you have no joy
And you have no surprises
And you have no adventures
And no limits are being pushed
And there’s no music at the bar
And you don’t have dinner with Her this weekend
And your not going to a wedding later this month
And your family won't be there for Christmas

Cheers, my friends. To better, brighter days. To dancing in the moonlight. To feeling something…anything except a cold.

Thank God for Julia Fox: See, I’m not alone.
There’s a Name for the Blah You’re Feeling: It’s Called Languishing "Languishing is the neglected middle child of mental health. It’s the void between depression and flourishing — the absence of well-being. You’re not functioning at full capacity. Languishing dulls your motivation, disrupts your ability to focus, and triples the odds that you’ll cut back on work."
New relationships are a part of life. So is ending them by Esther Perel. "It feels so good to click with a new person romantically. This new person moves from the periphery toward the center of our lives. Everything indicates forward motion, and then, one day, maybe a few weeks or months in, something changes. Something, it becomes clear, has unclicked.”

Decoupled on Netflix. A husband and his soon-to-be-ex-wife living together through their separation. An easy to watch comedy with excellent chemistry between the leads. I found myself smiling and rooting for reconciliation.
Narcos Mexico - Phenomenal acting, great writing. I dragged this out because I didn't want it to end. Amado Carillo Fuentes. Drool. Call me if you're alive.
Emily in Paris: Before Julia Fox, there was Emily helping us escape to Paris with her designer looks, adventures and heartbreaks. Cute, lighthearted.
